With her husband and children she came to Union County in the fall of 1922 and in 1923 moved to the ranch west of Clayton where she lived the rest of her life.
She was united in marriage to Willis Root on May 3, 1903, and to this union were born seven children. She was preceeded in death by her husband and by two daughters, Ida Root and Marion Lockhart.
Surviving children are: Wilton Root of Compton, Calif.; Stanley Root of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Harold Root of Mt. Dora; Marjorie Weiss of Hayward, Calif.; and Ted Root of Miami, N. M. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Two sisters, Ann Brandner of San Francisco, Calif. and Bertha Johnston of Central City, Nebr. and one brother Fred Brandner of Ames, Iowa, are also surviving.
Mrs. Root was born and raised in a family active in the Methodist church and she joined the church at Florence, Kansas, at an early age. She was active in the Methodist church until she moved to New Mexico, and throughout her life she lived according to Christian principles.
Far more than the average woman, Mrs. Root was an exceptional wife, mother, neighbor and friend. Her life was dedicated to the needs of the people nearest her. She will be greatly missed, not only by her family, but by all who knew her.
Interment was in the Fairmont cemetery, Raton, N. M.
