OBITUARY:
CHOWAN COUNTY, N.C. - Marjorie Simmons Weatherly, age 80, a Chowan County, N.C., resident for over eighteen years, went to be with the Lord on March 20, 2010, following a long illness.
She was born July 30, 1929, in Tyrrell Co., N.C., and was the oldest of five children to parents, Linwood Lindsey Simmons and Lucy Mae Spruill, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Andrew Kenneth Weatherly; as well as brothers, Arnold Simmons and Glenn Simmons; and grandson, Adam Grayson Kyte.
She leaves behind three children, son Eric Craig Weatherly and wife, Linda of Yorktown, Va.; daughters, Brenda Weatherly Liverman and husband, Charles of Plymouth, N.C., and Debra Weatherly Kyte and husband, Greg of Williamsburg, Va.; grandsons, Eric Craig Weatherly Jr., Harrison Kyte, Andrew Liverman, Johnnie Eason, and Michael Eason; granddaughter, Amy Liverman Williford and husband, Kyle; great-granddaughter, Layla Drew Williford; loving sisters, Iris Jean Ambrose and Linda Van Meter; and her dear friend, George Bunch.
Marjorie lived and raised her children in Yorktown, Va., with her husband Kenneth. In 1970, they purchased river front property in Rocky Hock, N.C., to serve as a weekend getaway. Their fondness for the area and its extraordinary people grew to the point that upon retirement, the couple built their permanent dream home there. Marjorie was a dedicated Christian and faithful member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church. She truly loved her Sunday school class as well as singing in the Senior Choir. Her passion included quilting, ceramics, painting, craft work and gardening. Most of all, Marjorie loved and was dedicated to her family, who will remember her as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and sister. Those that knew her were truly blessed. She was a rich source of joy and happiness in many peoples lives. She will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind. Our comfort is in knowing that one day we will be joyously reunited in heaven above. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of donations to Rocky Hock Baptist Church, "In Memory of Marjorie Weatherly," 113 Rocky Hock Church Rd., Edenton, NC 27932, to establish a fund for the purchase of robes for the senior choir.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Evans Funerals & Cremations Chapel in Edenton, N.C., followed by a celebration of Mrs. Marjorie Weatherly's life at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Azalea Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Rt. 64, between Columbia and Creswell.
