John was the son of David R. "Rube" Hall and Laura Frances Shultz. He grew up on his parent's farm in Cass Co., Iowa, the oldest of seven children. At an early age, as John put it, he had "wheels in his head". He was always interested in any kind of machinery or tools. By the time he was 15 or 16, the maintenance of the farm equipment and automobiles was mostly his responsibility. Over time, John became a master mechanic and repaired countless cars in his lifetime.
He married as his first wife, Joy Prather and they had children Barbara, Curtis, and Priscilla. His second wife was Evelyn Mitchell and they had three sons. John died at the age of 90 and left 6 children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather and is still missed very much by all.
