Joseph Stanley Casmero entered the Hanford National Guard in April, 1938, and went into the Infantry when the National Guard was called up. He trained at Fort Lewis, Washington, graduating in August, 1942, with the grade of sergeant. He participated in the Asiatic-Pacific campaign and was wounded in the right arm. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense ribbon. Casmero attended Laguna Grammar School and graduated from Hanford Union High School in 1938.
Three of his brothers, Richard, Russell and Cyril, also served in World War II. Richard was killed while serving with the Navy in the Southwest Pacific sea fighting.
