Son of James Floyd and Alta Mae 'Steen' Summerville. He graduated from Chilicothe High Schol and Chillicothe Business College. On November 30, 1933 he married Vivian Eloise Underwood in Brunswick, MO. They had two children, Sharon Ann and James Clifford.
Cliff was in the insurance business as an independent agent.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Chillicothe Shrine Club, Masonic Lodge, Friendship Lodge #89 AF & AM, and Professional Insurance Agents of Missouri.
