Chris passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011, near Valentine, NE as the result of a motor vehicle accident. He was 28.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton.

Christopher William "Chris" Hastings was born December 5, 1982, in Aberdeen, SD to Richard and Mary (Gilbertson) Hastings. He was raised on the family ranch northwest of Britton, and was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Havana, ND. He attended Britton Public School graduating in 2001. Chris took up farming with his father and brother.

On June 26, 2004, Chris married Teresa Beck. They made their home on the ranch. On April 13, 2008, they welcomed their first son, Levi William and on August 26, 2010, they were blessed with their second son, Brody Arthur.

Chris was truly a rancher at heart. Cows were his passion. He loved every aspect of ranching, from picking bloodlines of the bulls, to calving and watching the finished product sell in the barn. Chris was a talented welder and an avid archery hunter. He was a member of the Buckhorn Rodeo, the Dayton Township Board and had been a part of 4-H.

Chris's favorite hobby was training horses with his best friend, Kyle Hansen. Whether it was halter breaking or cutting, they always loved the challenge. They spent hours in the horse lots. If a calf needed doctoring, a horse that needed training or a friend that needed a helping hand, Chris was there at the drop of a hat.

All who knew him loved him, and those who got to know him were truly blessed. He was certainly the kind of guy that "broke the mold." As a friend or a family man, Chris will be greatly missed.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Teresa Hastings of Britton; his sons, Levi and Brody of Britton; his parents, Rick and Mary Hastings of Britton; a brother, Ryan (Kayla) Hastings of Langford; his grandmother, Darlene Hastings of Britton; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dennis and Vicki Beck of Hecla; a sister-in-law, Kelsey Beck of Rapid City; and several aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as a large circle of friends.

Preceding him in death were his paternal grandfather, Cyril Hastings, Jr.; his maternal grandparents, Milton and Gladys Gilbertson and a very special friend, Eric Bratsveen.
