She was retired registered nurse after 51 years of service. Mrs. Smith was a member of Providence Baptist Church. She died Jan. 16, 2011, at North Mississippi Center after an extended illness.
Survivors include three sons, James Vance of Choctaw, John Vance of Hernando and Alton Lee Vance of Kenai, Alaska; a daughter, Julia Johnson of Columbus; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
