Funeral services held Tuesday, were largely attended, the Rev. Jere K. Cooke of St. Georges, officiating. The interment was in the Hewlett plot at St. Georges church yard.
Mrs. Hewlett was born in 1832 in the Hentz homestead that for many years stood on Main street, near the post office. After her marriage to J. Mitchell Hewlett in 1859, they lived for some years at Rock Hall, Lawrence. In later years, for nearly twenty, they successfully managed during the summer season the Foster House at Quogue.
With the death of Mrs. Hewlett ends the direct descendant of the Hentz's in name, one of the earliest families in the village.
To the husband who survives her and to the many friends she leaves, there is the consolation of a well-spent life, a lovely Christian character and a most estimable woman having lived so long to cheer and to comfort their lives.
