Descendants In Fulton County Helped Mrs. Harriet Gray of Saratoga County Celebrate Her 100th Birthday Last Tuesday. Levi H. Gray of Johnstown and Everett L. Gray of Gloversville were in Corinth, Tuesday, where they joined in the celebration of the one hundredth birthday of Mrs. Harriet Gray, mother of the former and grandmother of the latter. The celebration took place at the home of Mrs. Gray’s grandson, James Reynolds, where she has resided for many years. On that day about forty of the relatives gathered at the home of Mr. Reynolds to extend congratulations. A banquet, which was all that could be desired, was served. Mrs. Gray, seated at the first table, and cutting the large birthday cake, which was made by Mrs. Z. T. Hawkins and Mrs. L.E. DeGroff of Corinth. Many elegant birthday postals and other gifts were presented. During the festivities of the day Mrs. Gray recited from memory a poem, which she learned when in school at about five years of age; also repeating a hymn learned in her early married life. Near the close of the day a purse was presented her by Rev. C. H. Wyman of Corinth, in behalf of the assembled relatives. Mr. Wyman was the officiating clergyman at the funeral of her late husband. The following were present: David D. Sturdevan, Mrs. Clorinda Deloriea. Mrs. Emily J. Reynolds, James and Jason W. Reynolds, John L. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Jason W. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dalton and two children, James F. Gray. Mr. and Mrs. Z. T. Hawkins, Mr and Mrs. Ezra Sayre, Mrs. K. H. Eggleston, William H. and George H. Eggleston. Rev, Charles H. Wyman, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Egglston, Wallace Brown, Robert Gray, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Sturdevan, Mrs. L. E. DeGroff, Mrs. Charles LaPeer and children, Floriman Redmond, all of Corinth; Mr. and Mrs. Isaac W. Bills and two children, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Williams, Edinburg; Mrs. Alvah Cook, Mrs. Charles Brooks, Conklingville; Everett L. Gray, Gloversville; Levi H. Gray, Johnstown. Before departing to their homes all joined in singing "How Firm a Foundation," in which Mrs. Gray joined. Mrs. Gray was born in the town of Milton, Saratoga county, January 5, 1815. In early life she resided for a short time in the town of Galway and, later, in Hadley, where at about eighteen years of age she married Hiram Gray, who died about twenty years ago. To Mr. and Mrs. Gray were born four sons and ten daughters, of whom the following survive: William Gray of Corinth, Levi H. Gray of Johnstown; Mrs. Emily H. Reynolds, Mrs. Sarah M. Eggleston, both of Corinth; Mrs. Martin Griffing of Warrensburg and Mrs. Allen Ostrander of Gloversville. There are also twenty-one grandchildren, sixty-two great grandchildren, and twenty-six great, great grandchildren. Early in her married life Mrs. Gray; with her husband, united with the Wesleyan Methodist church of Hadley, in which she still retains her membership. She has never bad a serious illness, her present health being excellent. Every day when weather permits, she walks in the yard adjoining the house. Mrs. Gray is in full possession of her mental faculties, and recalls many events of her childhood. Her sight and hearing are somewhat impaired.
