Elizabeth Rudder Whittington - Graveside services Elizabeth Rudder Whittington, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2011, at Brightwater Cemetery, in South Choctaw County, Alabama with The Reverend Beverly Wilson officiating. Bumpers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive visitors from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at the Toxey United Methodist Church, in Toxey, Alabama. Mrs. Whittington died July 16th, 2011, at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at the age of ninety years (90). Mrs. Whittington was born October 10, 1920, in Toxey, AL, the daughter of Dr. J.W. Rudder and Lula Land Rudder. She graduated from Silas High School and was educated at Huntingdon College and The University of Alabama where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She taught school in Choctaw County for many years and was a member of the Toxey United Methodist Church. She was married to B.W. Whittington of Toxey Alabama, who later became Business Manager of Athletics at The University of Alabama under Coach Paul Bryant and predeceased her in December of 2000. They had one daughter. Survivors include a dau-ghter, Peggy Whittington Thigpen and son-in-law Charles A. Thigpen; two grandchildren, Christopher Allen Thigpen and Amy Frieze Thigpen of Tuscaloosa, AL and Margaret Marion Thigpen Russell and J. Travis Russell of Mobile, AL; 7 Great grandsons, namely, Conner Allen Thigpen, Charles Christopher Thigpen, John Winston Thigpen, and Andrew Craig Thigpen of Tuscaloosa, AL and William Thigpen Russell, Carson Francis Russell, and Christopher Marion Rudder Russell of Mobile, AL. together with numerous nephews and nieces. Pallbearers include Tony Oglesby, F.A. Poggi, Jr, Christopher Thigpen, Conner Thigpen, Rodney Oglesby and Travis Russell. Memorials in her memory should be made to the Toxey United Methodist Church, Toxey, Al.
