Moved at age 12 in 1869 with his widowed mother and family to a small farm that had a log cabin on it, now on Hwy. 41. Here he grew up and raised a family of six children, built a new home about 1890, lived there until his death.

Married Amanda Adelia Martin July 29, 1880, by evangelist J. F. Griffin (his brother-in-law)in Flora, Illinois.
