James William COLEMAN and Mary CULBERT were married 26 Sept, 1866 at the Richmond St., Methodist Church in Toronto, York County, Ontario, Canada. It was a double ceremony shared with James's sister, Maria Miriam COLEMAN and John L. MASON of Davenport, Iowa. They were later divorced around 1885, most likely in New York.
Mary was married for a second time to Abner Morris Stuckert on the 7th day of December 1890 in Denver, Colorado.
Mary's lifetime passion was her "scheme" for Cooperative Housekeeping. She presented her plan for Cooperative Housekeeping in the Department Congress of The National Columbian Household Economic Association during the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois in May of 1893.
Mary was living in Honolulu Hawaii in 1920 when she was stricken with heart disease and desperately attempted to secure passage to return home to the mainland. Because of WWI there were few ships that were not secured for military purposes. She had no funds for passage and had all but given up hope of living out her last days with family when a Dr. friend came forward and arranged for her passage on the Matsonia Steamship. Her son, Mason COLEMAN, made arrangements to meet her on the 11th of May 1920 in San Francisco, CA. She died peacefully 4 days later in Los Angeles, California.
