Mary Lamb Taylor McGarr

Mary Lamb Taylor McGarr, also known as "Bitsy," died peacefully at home on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 7:20 a.m. surrounded by loving family and caregivers, and her loving cats, Ricky and Lucky. She was born on September 6, 1935, in French Camp, Mississippi, and was a long-time resident of Baton Rouge. She was a graduate of Eupora High School in Eupora, Mississippi, and also of the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Her hobbies included playing bridge for many, many years, and she had a devoted group of friends in her bridge club. She also had a love for music, particularly piano, and she worked for many years at Kenny Gill Music in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Ann McGarr of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; her grandchildren Annie Flynn McGarr, Charles Taylor McGarr II and fiancée Jessica Garza; and a great grandchild, Elodie Ann McGarr. She is also survived by two sisters Patsy Taylor Peeler of Tuscon, Arizona, Dr. Kathleen Taylor Foster of Corunna, Michigan; two sisters in law, Elizabeth Smith McGarr of Greensboro, North Carolina and Judy Taylor of Eupora, MS; and nieces and nephews. Survivors also include her devoted friends and caregivers, Christine and Teralyn McFarland.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William I. "Bub" McGarr; her son, Charles Taylor McGarr; and her daughter in law, Kitty Reed McGarr, all of Baton Rouge; and her parents Mary Louise Lamb Taylor and Roy Lee Taylor; her sister Martha Taylor; and her brother Buddy Taylor, all of Eupora, Mississippi.

Mrs. McGarr was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church for over 30 years.

The family would like to express gratitude to St. Joseph Hospice, Home Instead, and all others involved with her care throughout her extended illness.

Visitation was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, with religious service at 6 p.m. conducted by Dr. George Haile. Graveside services to be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 4:00 PM in the Eupora Cemetery in Eupora, MS with Brother Willie Weddle officiating.

Pallbearers for the graveside services are Taylor McGarr, Zachary McGarr, Dean Hall, and Jimmy McCain.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Broadmoor Baptist Church, 9755 Goodwood Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70815, or to the Alzheimer's Association of Baton Rouge, 3003 Old Forge Dr, Baton Rouge, LA 70808.
