Byron Finch was born in the township of Lee, Calhoun County, Michigan, November 28, 1874, and died at Edwards' hospital in Kalamazoo, February 17, 1917, at the age of 42 years, 2 months and 19 days. His early life was passed in the township where he was born. He came to Gilead, in 1904, which was his home until November 1916, when failing health compelled him to leave the farm and he moved to Ovid township. December 26th last, he was stricken with paralysis, and soon after went to the hospital at Ann Arbor, for treatment, where he remained until Feb 10, when he went to the Edwards' hospital at Kalamazoo. Four days after he suffered an attack of erysipelas in the face, from which he died on the morning of the 17th.
April 11, 1906, he was united in marriage to Zella McKinley. To this union two children were born, Clark DeForest and Florence Elizabeth. A kind husband and father, and an exemplary citizen, he leaves to mourn his passing, besides his sorrowing wife and children, six sisters, Mary Beck of Otsego, Hattie Shaffer of Charlotte, Della Winegar of Lee, Celia Eastman and Cora Bennett of Kalamazoo, and Alice Finch of Battle Creek, a number of other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the North M. E. church in Gilead, on Wednesday the 21st, Rev. M. A. Oldt officiating, and internment made in the North Gilead cemetery.
