Mr. Buford Elsworth Lambert, age 86, of 36859 Poplin Road, New London, NC, passed away on Friday, July 15th, 2011 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, NC.

His Graveside Funeral will be at 3 PM on Saturday, July 16th, 2011 at Poplins Grove Baptist Church Cemetery and his family will receive friends from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM just prior to the hour of the service in Poplins Grove Baptist Church's Sanctuary. Rev. Richard Carlisle will officiate the service with full military graveside rites conducted by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.

Born September 17th, 1924 in Stanly County, NC, Mr. Lambert was the son of the late E. Levi and Evansy Burris Lambert.

He was a graduate of Ridgecrest High School, a retired employee of Service Distributing Co. and a member of Poplins Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army and served as a machine gunner in Company D, 359th regiment, 90th Infantry Division. He was cited April 30, 1945 for "heroic achievement" in the vicinity of Fichtenbach, Germany. He was awarded teh Bronze Star and the French Croix de Guerre. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Lambert is survived by his wife, Martha Laura Scott Lambert; one son, Wayne Lambert and his wife Joyce of Bald Head Island, NC; two daughters, Wanda Brooks and husband Butch of Richfield, NC and Linda Medlin and husband Kip of New London, NC; one sister, Pauline Bowers of Albemarle, NC; seven grandchildren: Jenny Carrick, Laura Daugherty, Kim Shaver, Amanda Brooks, Kaleb Medlin, Kacey Medlin, and Zack Medlin; and seven great-grandchildren: Tanner Carrick, Avery Carrick, Hannah Carrick, Cate Daugherty, Tyler Daugherty, Luke Shaver, and Charlie Shaver.
