Reuben John Bolin, 96, died Monday, March 15, 2010 at Bethany Home in Alexandria.
Reuben was born December 18, 1913 on the family farm (which is now a Century Farm) in Alexandria Township to John and Hilda (Johnson) Bolin. When Reuben was 6 months old, his mother died and he went to live with the Erick Roos family until he was 5 years old. He attended Liberty School through the 8th grade. As a young man he played flute with the Geneva Woods Orchestra.
On June 19, 1941, Reuben was united in marriage to Edith Mattson at Fahlun Lutheran Church. Reuben farmed all his life and also did custom combining. In their retirement years, Reuben and Edith enjoyed traveling, especially in Alaska and Hawaii.
Reuben also loved to go to auctions, where he was very well known. A lot of the auctioneers would look to Reuben to get the bidding going. He had a good sense of humor and wit. Reuben loved nature – especially birds, sweets, and cherished his two great-granddaughters, Skylar and Sofia ("the little one").
He is survived by his son, Donovan of Fergus Falls; two daughters, Kathy Bolin of Nelson, Judy and husband, Albert Peraino of Mt. Vernon, WA; five grandchildren, Kristin Comunale, Rachel Peraino, Marc Peraino, Jesse Bolin and Jason Bolin; two great-granddaughters, Skylar Larsen and Sofia Comunale.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; son, Doug; parents; and three brothers, Vernol, Harold and Floyd; and one sister, Ethel.
Memorial services were held Saturday, March 20 at Fahlun Lutheran Church in Nelson with the Rev. Barbara Lund Thompson and the Rev. Marilee Bergerson officiating.
