Our beloved father Wayne J Coombs passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday July 2, 2009. He now returns back to his Heavenly Father and eternal companion LaVern (Stenquist) Coombs. Dad remains a legacy of love and leadership. His life was a perfect example of selfless sacrifice and service. He will be most remembered for his amazing smile.

Born on Christmas day 1924 to goodly parents, George H. and Lillian (Jensen) Coombs, in Garland Utah. He graduated from Bear River High School and attended Utah State University.

He married his sweetheart, LaVern Stenquist on April 2, 1945 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had 57 wonderful years together until she preceded him in death on November 2, 2002. He was a devoted husband and now rejoices in their reunion. They lived and raised their family in the Ogden area.

Wayne was a valiant life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Dad served as Bishop of the South Ogden 5th Ward and served as a Bishop's counselor, on the stake high council, and numerous other stake and ward callings. Dad and mom served a full-time mission on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. He was a temple ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple.

Surviving Wayne are his children: Vern (Sandy) Coombs, Washington Terrace; Steve (Annette) Coombs, Layton; Stephen Channel (son-in-law), Linton, IN; Dave (Della) Coombs, Plain City; Kim (SueAnn) Coombs, Layton; Sandy (Mark) Smith, Las Vegas, NV; 21 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are his sister LoRene (James) Carter, brother Daryl Coombs.

Preceding him in death are his parents, sweetheart LaVern, Carol Channel (daughter), Boyd Coombs (brother),Trevor Coombs (great grandson).

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the South Ogden 5th Ward Chapel, 4380 Orchard Ave.

Friends and family may call at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Ward Chapel.

The family would like to thank dad's very special caregivers; David and Della Coombs, Alicia De Lara, Nancy Lara and Kelsey Lara. We would also like to thank Alpine Hospice for their kind service.
