Probably born in what became Blount Co., TN. In the 1850 Randolph Co., IL census, Michael is listed as blind.

Son, Michael Bowerman, born about 1834 in Illinois, married Mary Angeline Tarwater in Ray Co., MO on 2 Feb. 1862. In the 1870 census Michael, Mary and family are living in Douglas Co., MO. Living with them is Michael's brother, Gabriel. In the Civil War enlistment records Gabriel is listed as a cripple. In the 1880 census Michael, Mary and family are back in Ray Co., MO. Gabriel is not listed with them and there are no records as to what had happened to Gabriel. On April 8, 1896, Mary Bowerman filed for a Civil War widow's pension. Mary is buried in the Haynesville Cemetery in Pratt Co., Kansas. Also buried in that cemetery is George Bowerman, son of Michael and Mary Tarwater Bowerman. Burial place of Mary's husband, Michael, is unknown.
