John [sic] A. Adams, living three miles north of Arbela, died suddenly Sunday morning at about 7 o'clock. Saturday he had complained of not feeling well, Sunday morning he had gone to the barn to do his chores when he fell over. Mrs. Adams heard him and rushed to his side to find him gasping. She endeavored to telephone for help, but could not get through, so started to a neighbor but met a man in a wagon and he notified the neighbors, who soon arrived, but Mr. Adams had passed beyond. Following is the obituary read at the funeral:

James Alexander Adams who lives three miles north of Arbela, Missouri, son of John McKinney Adams and Elizabeth Adams, was born in Jennings County, Indiana, April 3, 1849, and died March 25, 1928, being 78 years, 11 months, and 22 days old.

He came with his parents to Scotland County, Missouri, in 1853, to the home farm where he has lived his entire life time. On January 3, 1879, he was united in marriage to Mary F. Curry. To this happy union were born four children. One infant son and the only daughter, Daisy May, preceded him in death a number of years ago.

Besides his wife he leaves to mourn two sons, Stephen C. of Memphis. John William at the home farm, two grandsons, Olin and Stanley C. and one granddaughter, Velma Louise, one sister, Mrs. Drusie Moore of Kahoka, and one half brother, Lewis Adams, and one half sister, Mrs. Mary Riebel, both of Arbela, Missouri, besides a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

He was one of the pioneers of this community, a lover of his home and its surroundings, a worthy son of a great state, who has contributed a long and useful life in the tilling of the soil and service to his fellow man. His personal manner was charming, always kindly disposed, and a great lover of children. He was a strong advocate of high ideals and honest principles, honest and honorable in all of his dealings, and a forceful examiner of right living. He was a devoted husband, a noble father, and a splendid citizen. The community has lost an able and efficient servant, and the family has lost a true friend. He was genial, companionable, and above all, in rock-ribbed fortified character, outstanding in this community.

The funeral service was rendered from the home to the Methodist Church in Arbela, Tuesday, March 27, at 2 p.m. in the presence of the largest congregations, many of whom were unable to gain admission for lack of room. Rev. Arthur S. Olsen, pastor of the Methodist Church in Memphis, officiating, assisted by Revs. Kapfer, the pastor of Granger and George Miner, former pastor. The floral offerings were large and beautiful as a mark of esteem in which the deceased was held in the community. Interment was in Black Oak Cemetery (north of Granger) where the body was tenderly laid to rest. May God bless and comfort the bereaved family, who has the sympathy of their many friends.

The pallbearers were W. H. and W. T. McClellan, W. T. and Dillard Curry, James Fitch and George Adams.
