In Morganton, on the 12th instant, Mrs. Nancy McEntire, in the 82nd year of her age. Mrs. McEntire was a native of Ireland, whence she removed with her husband and family to Burke County, in the year 1788. She has left behind her a numerous offspring, whose eminent respectability affords evidence more permanent than passing eulogy, of the excellence of her precepts and the influence of her virtues. The community of which she was a member, will deeply regret the loss of one so distinguished for benevolence and hospitality - for the piety of her conduct and the manly efficiency of her character. - Mrs. McE. was an instance of those rare but gifted among the sex, who unite to the soft and generous feelings of the woman, the steady understanding and practical efficiency of the man; and the circumstances of her life, as they demanded the exercise of these stronger features of her character, so they gave to them a development and force which commanded respect and attracted admiration: - but it is to the expanded family circle, of which she has been so long and affectionate and venerated head, that her loss will be felt with the severest pang, and her memory cherished with the fondest affection - the endearing tie of parent and of child is snapped forever, but it will afford consociation to them even in their sorrows, to know that she has left to them the "rich legacy of her example," and to hope, that her spirit has ascended to the bosom of that God whose example and endeavored to pursue on earth, and in the full assurance of those mercies she expired.
