Cleo J. Hatala, 91, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 7:30 AM at the Kensington. She was born on December 5, 1919 in Victoria, Texas to Edward and Mary Goldman Sandhop. On June 25, 1943 she married Norman J. Hatala in Greenville, South Carolina. Norman and Cleo had just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Cleo was a homemaker and an excellent seamstress and cook and enjoyed playing games and cards. She was always a Texan.
Survivors include her husband, Norman J. Hatala of Ft. Madison; one daughter, Mary (Joseph) Link of West Point, IA; one son, Robert (Pauline) Hatala of Cedar Rapids, IA; one grandson, David (Amy) Link of North Liberty, IA; one granddaughter Ellen Hatala of Cedar Rapids, IA; three great grandchildren, Morgan, Jackson and Sophia Link of North Liberty, IA; one brother-in-law, Alton Schroeter of Victoria, TX; two sisters-in-law, Betty Butler of Lincoln, IL and Ruth Hatala of Ft. Madison; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and five sisters.

Burial will be in Soldiers' Circle, Oakland Cemetery. Per her wishes her body has been cremated.
