INWOOD, IA - Emma Hanson, age 105, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at the Fellowship Village in Inwood. Funeral services will be at April 6 at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Inwood. Burial will be at Richland Cemetery in Inwood. Rev. Ted Stowers will be officiating.

Emma Hanson was born on December 23, 1897 in Fairview, SD, daughter of Albert Nathan and Eva (Korder sic) Helder. She attended rural Sioux County school through the 8th grade, and Iowa State College for 2 years. On July 25, 1918 she married Arthur C. Hanson. They had 3 sons, Harland, Eldon and Marlo. They lived on the Hanson farm southwest of Inwood all their married life. Her husband served in the Iowa State House of Representatives for a number of years. While he was in Des Moines during the legislative sessions she accompanied him and while there, took a number of craft classes. She would teach these classes to local women when she returned home. She also belonged to the legislative ladies organization, was active in Bethel United Methodist Church of Inwood, Farm Bureau, Legion Auxiliary, Women's Club, Pricillas, Bridge Club and was a 4H Leader. She loved to sew and made over 100 pillow case dolls. She made quilts for all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was able to continue with this activity until she was 100 years old. She moved into town with her sister Ella in 1980 and to Fellowship Village in 1998.

Emma is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Eldon and Bette, Marlo and Norma Jane all of Inwood; one sister and her husband, Carol and Clarence Anderson of Canton, SD; 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Emma was preceded in death by her husband in 1966, one son and his wife, Harland in 1999 and Angeline in 1997, her mother and father, four brothers and 3 sisters.
