Biography from funeral home memorial card:
Hazel Drane, age 82, of Broadus, Montana passed away Monday, May 15, 1995 at her home in Broadus.
She was born on May 8, 1913 near Dillon Mill, Franklin County, Virginia to Waldo Raphael and Renie Belle (Bowman) Camper.
She moved with her family when she was a very small girl to Belle Creek where her father homesteaded. They returned to Virginia around 1924 because of her mother's poor health where her mother died February 6, 1925 when she was only twelve years old. It became her responsibility, as the oldest child, to be mother to her three brothers and two sisters. Her father married again, Mary Elizabeth Proctor Hamilton and they moved once again to Montana.
She graduated high school in Broadus in 1932 and on April 14, 1934, Hazel married Earl Drane of Ridge, Montana. Earl and Hazel homesteaded on on Prairie Dog Creek near Biddle, Montana until the early 1940's when they moved to Broadus.
Hazel Drane always actively supported her children's activities and was honored for over ten years as a leader in the local 4-H clubs. She was a mother who was always there for her family, loving them and guiding them through life. Her love know no bounds and her passing will forever leave a hallowed place in the hearts of all those who knew her. Hazel loved working with her garden and flowers.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Earl of Broadus, Montana; three daughters, Thelma Ann Richardson of Shell Rock, Iowa, Betsy Jean Deibel of Scottsdale, Arizona and Carol Louise Lambert of Hammond, Montana; two sons, Allen Earl Drane of Broadus, Montana and Larry David Drane of Billings, Montana; two brothers, Ray Camper of Tennessee City, Tennessee and Rodney Camper of California; eleven grandchildren and nemerous great and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and two other brothers, Carl and Clinton, and two sisters, Hallie and Bertha.
Should friends desire, memorials may be left with the family to support the Powder River County Fair.
