JOPLIN, MO — Maynard Edward Hutchens, age 65, Joplin, passed away on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at St. John's Hospital in Joplin, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Maynard was born April 1, 1945, in Cairo, Ill., the son of the late William Hugh "Buck" Hutchens and Lola "Jane" (Lytle) Hutchens. Maynard graduated from Joplin High School with the Class of 1963. Early in his career Maynard worked for O&F Machine Products, Inc. and was a supervisor at FAG Bearings Corporation before retiring after more than 35 years of service.

As a youth, Maynard was proud to be a patrol boy at West Central Elementary School. He was a Cub Scout and was active playing Little League baseball. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing with his sons and his friends.

Maynard married Sally Mitchell on June 23, 1972. She survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Chad Hutchens and Mitch Hutchens, both of Joplin; one grandson, Robbie Hutchens, of Farmington, Mo.; and his sister, Cid Hutchens Knight, of Carthage, Mo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Hutchens Baker; and one great-niece, Anna Beth Sitton.

Services will be Saturday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m. at Mason-Woodard Chapel with Charles King officiating. Burial will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Tom Messner, Ed Campbell, Don Tinder, Rick Williams, Tim Messner and Paul Wilkinson. Honorary pallbearer will be Cleo Morris. The family will receive friends at Mason-Woodard Chapel Friday, Feb. 4, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made in Maynard's honor to the American Cancer Society in care of Mason-Woodard Chapel.
