Robert H. Gale Sr., age 90, of Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton, died Saturday, July 9, 2011, peacefully surrounded by his wife, sons and granddaughters, at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband for 65 years of Dorothy D. (Cappiello) Gale. Bob was born in Rockland and raised in Brockton, a son of the late Alfred B. and Catherine (Creeden) Gale. He was a longtime resident of Ward 4 the Bush in Brockton, before moving to Bridgewater 11 years ago. During World War II, Bob served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre and participated in the battle of Iwo Jima. He had worked for many years in the U.S. Post Office in Brockton and retired as a district supervisor. In his free time, he enjoyed golf and was a member at DW Field Golf Course and also bowling with the Brockton Senior Citizens League. Bob was an original member of the Enterprise Club, where he enjoyed playing 45 and was also a member of the Marine Corps League, Brockton ITAM, Whitman VFW Post 697, the Sons of Italy, the Postal Supervisors Association and the former Irelands Own.
