Funeral services for Rowland H. Bancroft, 62, of Palisade, who died Wednesday, wilal be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, in the First Baptist Church in Palisade. The Rev. Emil Balla will officiate. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Grand Junction under the direction of the McLean Funeral Home of Palisade.
A native of Grand Junction, Mr. Bancroft had lived on the Western Slope all of his life except for a one-year stay in Kentucky following his marriage. He was born April 20, 1894. A leading business man and active community worker for many years, Mr. Bancroft had served on the school board for 12 years, on the Palisade town board for an approximately equal period, and had assisted all groups concerned with community affairs. He became a member of the Masonic lodge in Kentucky, then affiliated with the Palisade Lodge the following year. He was a Past Master of the lodge and a Past Patron of the Eastern Star. Members of the Masonic Lodge will attend the services.
Long active in the affairs of the First Baptist church, he had served on the board of deacons for many years.
In 1923, in partnership with Paul Rice, he bought a grocery and market. He became sole owner in 1937, and supplemented the business venture by holding interests in Palisade's peach industry. Since his health failed in recent years, a son, Robert H. Bancroft, has taken over management of the business.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Bancroft, and son, Robert, are another son, Thomas R. Bancroft of Lynwood, Calif., two daughters, Mrs. Louis Supancic of Grand Junction and Mrs. James Brown of Meeker; a sister, Mrs. Fairy Ryan of Palisade, and 12 grandchildren.
