Prominent Resident And Member Of District Bar
Funeral Monday Afternoon From Dumbarton Avenue Church
Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery
Jesse H. Wilson Sr., of the local bar, died yesterday afternoon at the Homeopathic Hospital, following an operation which was performed about four days ago. His condition was regarded as satisfactory until yesterday morning, when a change for the worse occurred and he gradually became weaker, death resulting shortly after 4:30 o’clock. The news of his demise was a shock to his many friends in the District. He was fifty-five years of age.

The funeral will take place Monday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, from the Dumbarton Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church, followed by the interment in Oak Hill Cemetery. Among the pallbearers will be Prof. Emery M. Wilson, Allen E. Wilson, M.L. Wilson, brothers of the deceased and H.M. Woodward.

Native of the District.
Mr. Wilson was born in the District of Columbia in 1855 and throughout his adult years he was identified with the progress of this city. He was a graduate of the Columbian University (now George Washington) of the Class of 1874, academic department and of the university’s law school two years later. Almost from the time of his admission to the District bar Mr. Wilson held an enviable position among his legal associates. He enjoyed the reputation of being one of the foremost civil lawyers practicing before the District courts. From time to time he was connected with notable cases tried in the District’s higher courts.
He took a deep interest in the District’s public school system and for about ten years was a member of the Board of Education. He was also vice president of the local bar association, giving up the position several years ago. For a time he was president of the Columbian University Alumni Association of the District and later of the George Washington Alumni Association.

Unable to Rally from Shock
Mr. Wilson has been in ill health for several months and gradually reached a condition when an operation was deemed to be necessary. The climax in his case was reached about a week ago and several days later he was removed to the Homeopathic Hospital, where the operation was performed, as stated. The rally from the operation at first indicated a rapid recovery, but because of his weakened condition he was unable to survive the shock.

The Wilson home is at Somerset Heights, Maryland. Mr. Wilson’s wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Woodward Wilson; three sons, Jesse H. Wilson Jr., Thomas Wilson and Ralph O. Wilson and one daughter, Miss Elizabeth Wilson, survive him.
