James Batoun died September 16 1939 at his home in Tobias at the age of 65 years, 6 months and 12 days, following an illness of only a few days. The body was brought to the J. V. Kotas funeral chapel in Milligan, where services were held Monday, September 18 at 2 p. m. in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends a large concourse of neighbors and friends coming from Tobias to pay their last respects.
The deceased leaves to mourn his departure his brothers Joseph, Frank, Emil and Ed Baloun and his sisters Mrs. Mary Jirkovsky of Milligan and Mrs. Pauline Koci of near Crete.
F. O. Kucera of Wilber officiated at the services and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dvorak and Miss Evelyn Frycek sang. Interment was in the cemetery south of Milligan.

Vaclav Baloun was born in Czechoslovakia on the 4th day of March, 1874. At the age of 2 years he came to the United States with his parents who settled near Crete on a farm, where they resided for years. At the age of 18 years with his parents he moved on a farm in Thayer county, Nebraska, near Hubbell, where he resided with his parents 11 years. His parents coming to the age when retirement was needed they rented the farm and moved to Tobias, where Vaclav lived until his death. His parents preceded him several years ago. He passed away on the 16th day of September, at the age of 65 years, 6 months and 12 days. His remains were laid at rest at the Milligan national cemetery on the 18th day of September in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives. He leaves to mourn his departure, four brothers, Joseph, Frank, Emil and Edward Baloun, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Jirkovsky, of Milligan and Mrs Pauline Koci, of near Crete. F. O. Kucera of Wilber officiated at the funeral and Milligan singers sang.
