Waterville Telegraph - Waterville, Marshall County, Kansas - February 9, 1923:
"Obituary -- Walter R. Gordon, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. M Gordon, was born in Waterville Dec 10, 1909, and passed away from this life at 5:15 a.m., Feb. 2,1923, following an illness of two weeks, aged 16 years, 1 month and 23 days. Although suffering intense pain his patience and courage to the end were remarkable. In September, 1916, he entered the public school of this city, completing the first three years of work in two years, and at the time of his death was in the seventh grade. But for Walter school is out. Close the study books and neatly lay them aside. The text book to be opened is the Book of Life. Be attentive to the roll call! Oh, yes, let the bells of gladness ring, for we hear, -- Walter Gordon was baptized April 3d, and received into full connection in the Methodist Episcopal church, May 21, 1921. His life among us was short, indeed, but he will be sadly missed by a host of relatives and friends. Besides his father and mother, he leaves two brothers, Chester Y and Foster A and two sisters, Gladys and Lucille. The funeral, which was largely attended, was held Sunday afternoon, Feb. 4th, from the Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, Rev. Melvin A. Good. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery by the side of his eldest brother, Glen, who preceded him in death
