AMERICAN BIOGRAPHY.
1851....
Sept. 16. -- In St. Louis, Mo., Brevet Brigadier-General Henry Whiting, Assistant Quartermaster-General. He was commissioned a Cornet of Dragoons, October 20, 1808, and passed honorably through the successive grades to that held by him at his decease. He served with reputation on the Niagara frontier in the war of 1812 with Great Britain. In the late war with Mexico he filled the high and responsible post of Quartermaster-General to the Army of Occupation, and shared with it in the glory of the field of Buena Vista. The brevet of Brigadier-General conferred on that occasion attests the appreciation of his service in that memorable conflict.
