BERLIN — HETZ – Kristal Jo, 31, Berlin, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident in Dauphin County, near Harrisburg. Born April 28, 1980, in Meyersdale, daughter of Lisa Murray-Stayrook and Randy Stayrook, of Wittenburg, and William Hetz, Meyersdale. Preceded in death by grandparents, Bernard and Norma Murray, to whom she was especially devoted as a child. Also great-grandparents, Walter and Lydia Christner and Allen and Anna Murray, and cousin, Barry Kukowski. Survived by aunt and uncle, JoAnn and James Kukowski, and Shaggy, Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; cousin, Paula Kukowski-Cantor, and husband, Kimberly, and Milo and Mysti, Stockbridge, Ga.; cousin, Amy Kukowski, and Princess, BT and Squirt, Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; cousin, Amy Gilbreath, and husband, John, Fort Hill; stepbrother, Christopher Harbaugh, Confluence; stepsister, Amanda Saunders, and husband, James, Ranson, W.Va.; aunt, Cindy Stayrook, Cumberland, Md.; uncle, Terry Stayrook, and cousin, Angie, Berlin; special aunt and cousins, Cathy Hetz, Meyersdale, and Candi Hetz-Pletcher and family, and Misty Hetz-Sines and family; family friends, Brad and Edie Murray and family, Friedens, and Mike and Kim Saylor, Berlin; and all the girls at Styles by Brittany. Kristal was profoundly deaf and was educated at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (WPSD) in Pittsburgh. She commuted by bus to her school each week, starting as a preschooler, until she graduated in 1999. She received specialized training to improve her communication skills as well as a standard curriculum. She made and kept many friends from her time there and was very active socially in the deaf community, especially with the Johnstown Association of the Deaf. She was an animal lover and was devoted to her two cats, Harley and Eva. She loved all things Harley-Davidson and attended Thunder in the Valley every year. No viewing or services at this time.
