Will Book: 1, Page 239;
Dates: John Botkin signed 6 March 1829; proved/probated 2 June 1829
Heirs: Wife Polly; sons Charles (eldest), Joshua, William, John; daughters Margaret Fuller, Joan Chestnut, Elizabeth Botkin.
Executors: Charles Botkin (eldest son) & William Serviss; Witnesses: Joel Forgey and Solomon Kelly.
NOTE: He is listed in DAR registry as Patriot 259566; however, the service attached to him has not been proven to be his (DAR requires proof before anyone else can join under him as a Patriot). We strongly believe that the service attached to him belongs to someone else. The family of the person who made the original application says there is no proof in their possession that this service belongs to this John Botkin. There were several guys named John Botkin at that time, and we now believe this Revolutionary War service goes with a different John Botkin. Also, we believe 1765 is a closer year for his birth (based on early records), rather than the "about 1758" assigned to him in the original DAR application. If we are successful in proving that was a patriot during the Revolutionary War, and that "about 1758" is a good birth time for him, we will provide that documentation to DAR. Meanwhile, we are not considering him a Revolutionary War patriot. At this point, we have not found documentation to even determine who his parents were, though several have attached him to various parents in their databases (with no associated documentation).

No burial record or stone found for John. Assume buried in same cemetery as his wife (old part of New Carlisle Cemetery), but still researching.
