Effie Johnson, 92, of Battle Lake, died Thursday, July 26, 2007, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.

She was born April 7, 1915, the seventh child of Carl and Alice (Martinson) Johnson on the family farm in Amor Township, Otter Tail County. The six children preceding her in birth were Arnold, Elda, Harry, Eddie, Leonard and Lillie, and she also had two younger siblings, LaVerne and Mildred.

In the fall of 1922, when she was seven years old, she started grade school at District 69 and graduated from the eighth grade in 1928. That fall she began high school in Fergus Falls, graduating from there in 1932. She attended Moorhead State Teacher's College for one year and received a teacher's certificate.

She then taught at District 170 in Amor Township for five years and at District 241 for one year. She went to Minneapolis and took a refresher course of shorthand and typing and then worked at the Little Bakery for about three years.

This was followed by a career at Sears Roebuck and Company until 1975, when she and her sister, Elda, moved to the home in Battle Lake. Her sister, LaVerne, joined them in 1976.

She was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church in Minneapolis and later the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Battle Lake. She enjoyed working with children both in Sunday School and Awana. Effie and her sisters enjoyed being together and fishing at their home on West Battle Lake.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.

Memorial are preferred to Alliance Church Women's Club or the donor's choice.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Battle Lake
