Abner is buried at the top of a very high hill: Five miles NE of Petersburg, TN, west of Helton Hollow. This is accessed from Poor Grab Rd., crossing the fields and fences and climbing straight up the hill. Three graves here are marked with native fieldstones. Abner was born in North Carolina in 1793, and was listed as being a road patroller in 1812 in Surry Co. NC. He moved to Lincoln Co. TN prior to 1820 and is recounted as being married 4 times with 33 children. He made a will in 1856 and was buried on a high hill in Lincoln Co. TN 5 miles NE of Petersburg. The small cemetery is on a high hill NW of the intersection of Poor Grab Rd and Pierce Rd. The cemetery has three native stones and one must walk to access the cemetery. This is a different "Freeman Cemetery" than the one on the northeast corner of Poor Grab Rd and Pierce Rd. Abner's daughter Eliza married William Morton in Lincoln Co. TN in 1842 and moved to TX in 1846. I am related to Abner through her. Further information on Eliza Jane may be accessed through Fannin Co. TX on this website. She will be found as Eliza Jane Morton. She died in 1879.
