Ferris Rogers, 84, of Williston, died Saturday July 2, 2011, at Williston Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Trenton on April 21, 1927, to William Cody and Pearl Rogers. Mr. Rogers farmed with his father and brothers after high school in Gilchrist and Levy County.
He was inducted in the United States Army, where he served in the Korean conflict for two years. When he returned to civilian life he attended the University of Florida, was an avid Gator fan and earned his Master's degree in Agricultural Education. In 1959, he became the Agriculture teacher at Williston High School, where he taught for 28 years, first with high school students and then adult education.
Mr. Rogers retired in 1989 but continued visiting the family cabin, growing watermelons, raising cattle, working in his large garden and sharing his crops with family and friends. He was an active member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Williston.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alice Rogers; son, Tommy (Yvonne) Rogers, of Chiefland, Tim (Donna) Rogers, of Williston, Andy (Kim) Rogers, of Centreville, Va.; brothers, Felton (Maudeen) Rogers, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Floyd (Reatha) Rogers, of Trenton; grandchildren, Colby (Shannon) Rogers, Jared Rogers, Seth (Megan) Rogers, Taylor Rogers and Blake Rogers; great-grandchildren, Alistair Rogers, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his parents, Williams Cody and Pearl Rogers; brother, Austin Rogers, sister, Ina Kinzer and daughter, Chris Rogers Drew.
The family received visitors at Knauff Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at First Baptist Church in Williston, with Pastor Tony Clubb officiating, followed by internment at Orange Hill Cemetery in Williston.
Arrangements were under the care of Knauff Funeral Home, Williston.
