Obituary Jordan Independent March 22, 2001

Viola T. Deutsch, age 87, of Shakopee, died Friday, March 16, 2001 at Auburn Manor Nursing Home, Chaska.

Mrs. Deutsch was born on Feb. 14, 1914 in Jordan, the daughter of Guido and Lena (Lambrecht) Wermerskirchen. She married Art Deutsch on May 15, 1935 at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Jordan.

They farmed at St Joseph for 37 years, then retired to Shakopee in 1972. She was well known and loved as a cook at St Joseph's School, Scott Co. Head Start, Creative Play, Scott Co. Jail and Shakopee Nutrition Center. She was a member of St Mark's Council of Catholic Women, Catholic Aid Society, Senior Citizens' Club, Legion of Mary at St Mary's Catholic Church, and past member of St Mark's Funeral Committee. Viola was also a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Art; daughters Darlene Menke of Shakopee, Joyce Johannes and husband Cliff of New Prague; son Allen and wife Joetta of Taylorville, Illinois; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister Julianne Carpentier of New Market; brothers Walter Wermerskirchen and wife Carol of Park Rapids, Roman Wermerskirchen and wife Ruth of Belle Plaine, Melvin Wermerskirchen and wife Loretta of Chaska, Ralph Wermerskirchen and wife Myrna of Jordan, Paul Wermerskirchen and wife Marilyn of Jordan. She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Lee Menke; sister-in-law Evelyn Wermerskirchen; and brother-in-law Roger Carpentier.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 19, 2001, at St Mark's Catholic Church in Shakopee. Rev. William Stolzman officiated. Interment was at the Catholic Cemetery in Shakopee.

Pallbearers were Mark Menke, Judy Waddell, Jean Becker, Sandy Johannes, Jonathan Deutsch and Nicholas Deutsch.

The Cavanaugh-McNearney Funeral Home in Shakopee was in charge of funeral arrangements.
