Donald W. Bray, 72, of Sycamore, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb.

Born Jan. 11, 1939, in Waterman, the son of Herlie G. and Elma M. (Suddeth) Bray, he married Sylvia Sue Wilkinson on June 28, 1969, at Bethany Baptist Church, DeKalb.

Don was a member of First Baptist Church of Sycamore and as a lifelong farmer was a director of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau, a member of Land of Lincoln Soybean Association Board of Directors, a member of the Illinois Corn Growers Association, a contributor to Ag-in-the-Classroom and was a 4-H leader. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; children, Carolyn Bray of Woodstock, Donna Bray and David Bray, both of Sycamore and Mary Ellen (Nathan) Olmstead of Germany; siblings, Judith (Jack Maness) Clark of Opdyke, Duane (Jean) Bray of St. Paul, Minn., and Linda (Bob) Thompson of Sycamore; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul Wesley; and a brother, Gerry.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at First Baptist Church, 530 W. State St., Sycamore, with pastor Steve Persson officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Shabbona. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
