Lela Mae Armstrong, a Temple resident the past three and one-half years, lived in Rockdale since 1943. She was born Nov. 10, 1921 in Milano to George Jeff and Lucy B. (Brooking) Neeley. A homemaker, she and John C. Armstrong were married April 10, 1943 at Gause United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Armstrong was a graduate of Milano High School, member of Rockdale Assembly of God Church and the Eastern Star. She as a seamstress and enjoyed her vegetable garden, flower garden and her plants.
She died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at the King's Daughters Hospital in Temple. Funeral services for Lela Mae Armstrong, 82, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2004 at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Doug Springer officiating. Burial followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Preceding her in death were her husband, John C. "Jake" Armstrong; parents, Jeff and Lucy Neeley; and uncle and aunt, Ira and Etta Brooking.
