Birth: 5th of nine known children in Ohio.

Census: 1860, age 8 Fairfield township, Highland county, Ohio with parents & seven siblings, father farmer ($15400, Real estate, 5000,Personal)

Census: 1870, age 17 Fairfield township, Highland county, Ohio with parents & seven siblings, works on farm.

Family moved to Jasper county, Missouri in 1872 according to family Bible.

Census: 1880, age 27 Union township, Jasper county, Missouri a widower with parents & two siblings, occupation farmer.

Parents had deeded south half of their Carthage lot to Soloman but fenced 9 1/2 feet to far into his. The following owner after Soloman and his father's deaths, sued his widowed mother in 1887 to regain that portion. The Jasper county Circut court ruled in favor of his mother, having held the land for more than ten years openly, exclusively, and without Solomon's permission. The Missouri Supreme Court reviewed the case in 1891 and refused to overturn the trail court decision. See Irwin v Woodmansee, 104 Mo. 403.
