Daniel Vogel Pike, 67, well known fruit grower, dahlia farm operator and potato chip manufacturer, died Friday morning at 10:30 at his home in Smithsburg, Rout 1, of a heart condition. He had been critically ill the past six weeks.
He was born in Smithsburg, the son of Daniel A., and Elizabeth Vogel Pike and spent his entire life in the Smithsburg section. He was a member of the Lutheran church at Smithsburg.
Besides his wife, Nellie Wiles Pike, he is survived by three sons, Ira, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Daniel, of Smithsburg, and John Pike, of Waynesboro; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home; interment in Smithsburg cemetery.
