Samuel Withrow McKinley (1870-1907) was the eighth child and fifth son of Alexander McKinley (1817-1896)amd Margaret Delia Hayes (1829-1871)of Washington, Washington County, Pennsylvania.His brothrs and sisters were: Frances E (Fanny) (1853-1905). Thomas H McKinley (1855-1926), Lucian W. McKinley (1857-1923, Frank B McKinley (1860-), Alice McKinley(1862-1863). Ella Wiley McKinley (1865-1871),and, Alexander(1868-1871. Samuel was less than a year old when his mother died and in January 1872 his father married Elizabeth J Bailey (1829-1914). They lived in Washington, Pennsylvania. Before the marriage two of the youngest children died at the same time as their mother in 1871.Samuel was raised by his sep mother Elizabeth J Baley McKinley and was buried in the McKinley family plot in Washington Cemetery, Washington, Washington County, Pennsylvania.

Samuel married Blanche Estle about 1914 and the birth of their daughter Olive Blanche was born shortly before the death of her mother.

From the years 1865-1873 there were a series of epidemics of recurring smallpox, typhus, typhoid, scarlet fever, and yellowfever. Just which epidemic took three members of this family is unknown.
