Lawrence "Larry" Baldwin, 90 of Fergus Falls died Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.

Lawrence LeRoy was born April 5, 1919, in Michigan, North Dakota, one of 11 children born to John & Mattie (Wise) Baldwin Jr. He attended school District #190 near Clitherall and 9th grade in Battle Lake along with 10th and 11th grades in Henning. He completed his G.E.D. following 11th grade.

On November 11, 1941, he married Iola Simonson on the farm near Henning. The couple were the parents of three children.

In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in various locations including the American and European Theater. He participated in the Battle of Rhineland Push near France. His main occupation was a baker & cook. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

In 1955 he married Louise Christine Estes and in 1967, Alma Jewell.

He attended Logan Chiropractic College from 1949 to 1951. Lawrence worked for a variety of companies, Chrome Kraft Corp., ValSpar Paint Company which later became Minnesota Paint. He also worked for National Tea and Kroger Grocer Bakery Division from 1969-1984. His work experiences were in St. Louis Missouri. In 2000 he relocated to Fergus Falls where he currently resides.

He is a member of the Community of Christ Church at Clitherall, the St Louis American Legion. He is a Life Member of the V.F.W and Disabled American Veterans Organization in Fergus Falls.

His hobbies include fishing on Clitherall Lake, horseback riding & enjoying the outdoors.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his spouses, Iola and Louise; a son, Christian Frances in 1959; three sisters, Elsie Opergard and two in infancy, Eleanor and Edna ; four brothers, Virgil Frances, Selmer Eugene, Charles Wilmer, and Ervin Russell; and a sister-in-law, Evonne Baldwin.

His family includes his wife, Alma; two sons, Michael (Sharon) Baldwin of Cold Spring and John Russell III of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Dean, Angela Simpson, Michelle (Nick) Kurtzweg and Christian; four great grandchildren, Dillon, Tyler, Brandon and Jessie; twin brothers, Howard (Darlene) of Moorhead, and Harold Baldwin of Fergus Falls, a sister; Elizabeth (Gordon) Island of Rockport, Texas along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Visitation: Friday, February 5, 2010, from 2-4 at the Faith & Hope Funeral Home Chapel; visitation to continue one hour prior to the services at the funeral home chapel.

Funeral Service: 2 p.m. , Saturday, February 6, 2010, at the Faith & Hope Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment: Knollwood Memorial Gardens.
