Max William Kernohan passed away on July 4, 2011 at the age of eighty seven years, two months and one day. He was born May 3, 1924 to William and Leafa May (McCullough) Kernohan. A lifetime farmer and resident of Harper County, graduating from Sharon High School with the class of 1942.

He was married to Doris Jean Twyman on August 29, 1943. She passed away in February of 1998 and he was later united in marriage with Betty (Davis) Totten.

Max was a member of the Keystone United Methodist Church, later transferring to the Attica United Methodist Church where he served on various boards. He was past master of the Stan Smart Masonic Lodge of Zenda, which later merged with the Attica and Harper Lodges. He served on Ridge Township school board of Barber County and was clerk on the Liberty Township board in Harper County.

Survivors include his wife Betty of Zenda, Kansas; two sons: Bob Kernohan and his wife Beverly of Celina, Texas, Pat Kernohan and his wife Cheryl of Attica, Kansas; three daughters: Betty (Green) Devoe and her husband Bill of Zenda, Kansas, Mary Ann Goemann and her husband Danny of Pratt, Debbie Allen and her husband Mark of Wellington. Nine grandsons, two granddaughters, fourteen great grandchildren; brother: Glen and his wife Peggy of Longview, Texas; sisters: Jo Niemann of Goddard and Jean Buhrman and her husband Carl of Hutchinson; two stepsons and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2011 at the Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper with Pastor Jeff McCullough and Pastor Wayne Stephens officiating.

Masonic graveside services by the Masonic Lodge #206 AF & AM were held at the Attica Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in memory of Max to the Attica United Methodist Church, Hospice Care of Kansas or to the Attica Long Term Care Center and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
