Duane was born June 26, 1942 in Provo, Utah to Willard Duane Burge Sr. and Ina Scott Burge. He graduated from BYU in Mechanical Engineering.

While attending BYU, he met his sweetheart Cheryl Rae Morrison and was married in the Logan Temple. She preceded him in death in 2007. Duane and Cheryl lived in Riverton, Utah where they raised their children.

He was a member of the Riverton Seventh Ward and spent many hours serving in multiple capacities within the church. He especially enjoyed serving in the scouting program.

Duane loved animals and would often bring home dogs that he had rescued. He also enjoyed the outdoors and looked forward to summer camping trips.

Duane worked in the drafting field for several organizations and was very good at drawing. He would use these skills at home as well to draw ships and animals for his grandkids.
