Gloria H. Trujillo, a lifelong resident of Nambé, NM and Santa Fé, NM, passed away peacefully at her home on February 14, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Gloria was born in Nambé, NM to Juanita and Bernardino Herrera on March 20, 1935.
Gloria attended schools in Nambé, NM and received her high school diploma in 1953 from Pojoaque High School.
Gloria was a Ford Foundation Scholar at the University of New Mexico and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1958. Gloria taught at Pojoaque Schools from 1959 until 1967 and formed life-long bonds with many of her students.
In 1963, she married Miguel E. Trujillo and they moved to Santa Fé.
Gloria raised her children with the same commitment that she had for teaching. Later, she volunteered many hours for local organizations including Villa Therese Clinic, The Division of Senior Services, Santa Fé Public Schools, Santa Fé Symphony and Santa Fé Concert Association.
Gloria participated in Senior Olympics and competed at the local, state and national levels. Gloria was active in bowling where she served as secretary for her league. Gloria loved to travel and saw most of the United States as well as Italy, Portugal, Spain, Greece and England.
Gloria was a woman of strong, quiet faith and an active member of Saint Anne Catholic Church.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters, Genevieve Baca, Agnes Montoya and Michele C de Baca and her brothers, Frank, Alfonso and Samuel. Gloria is survived by her daughter, Valerie, her son, Steven and his wife, Erin, her step-grandson, Miguel and his wife, Mary Beth, her step-granddaughters, Lori and Lisa, her step-great-grandchildren, Zachary and Ava, her sisters, Evelyn Hall and her husband, Tate, Mary Lou Salazar and her husband, Eloy, Olivia Roybal and her husband, John and Joanne Herrera, her brothers, Edmund Herrera and his wife, Betty, Ben Herrera and his wife, Frances an, Frank Herrera and his wife, Aggie, sister-in-law, Viola Herrera and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, other relatives and many dear friends.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel, Santa Fé, NM, with a Rosary to follow at 4:00 p.m. Another Visitation will be on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, Santa Fé, NM with burial to follow at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM. Serving as Pallbearers will be Carla Jácquez, Aggie Herrera, Frank López, Henry Baca, Fred Jones and Ben García. Honorary Pallbearers are Paul Herrera and Jason Herrera.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Villa Therese Clinic, the Cancer Institute Foundation (www.CancerInstituteFoundation.org) or to the charity of your choice.
