"Mattie J. Piller

Funeral services for Mrs. Mat-
tie J. Piller, 91, of 944 Kentucky
St., who died Saturday, will be
at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday from the
Wiggins Funeral Home.

Rites will be conducted by the
Rev. Alan L. Searles, pastor of
First Presbyterian Church. In-
terment will be in Sunrise Me-
morial Cemetery.


Mrs. Mattie J. Piller, 91, of 944
Kentucky St., died Saturday in a
Vallejo hospital following a brief
illness. A native of San Fran-
cisco, Mrs. Piller had been a
resident of the Vallejo area for
63 years.

She was a widow of John A.
Piller. She is survived by three
sons, Wilbur J., J. Russell and
Lloyd G., all of Vallejo; six
grandchildren and one great-
grandchild.

Her father was one of the own-
ers of the Jack London ranch in
Sonoma and she has a brother
and sister buried alongside the
famous author. She was a mem-
ber of the First Presbyterian
Church.

Arrangements are pending at
the Wiggins Funeral Home."

Jay Russell Piller, 96, died at home after a long
illness on Monday.

Mr. Piller, also known as "Russ," was a Vallejo
native and resident. Mr. Piller graduated from
Vallejo High School and attended U.C. Berkeley,
he worked for Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a
planner estimator and electrician for 35 years,
retiring in 1970.

Mr. Piller was a member of the San Pablo
Lodge No. 43 for more than 70 years, a lifetime
member of the Vallejo Elks No. 559, and a mem-
ber of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

He enjoyed taking care of his rental property
and investing in the stock market.

His wife, Margaret preceded him in death in
July 2000.

Mr. Piller is survived by his daughters, Jayden
Schwerin and Jennifer Francowiak; and grand-
children, Nicole and Ross Francowiak and Robert
Schwerin.

A private unurnment will be held.

Contributions preferred to Sutter Hospice.
