From a truncated copy of John's obituary as published in the Beaver Dam Argus on January 14, 1932, I transcribe a few facts: John was born in "Budweis, Baine, Germany" and at the age of six years came to the U.S. with his parents, driving from Watertown, Wisconsin to the Buckhorn Tavern north of Beaver Dam by ox team. He was married to Kate Wise at St. Peter's Church, Beaver Dam, on 18 Feb 1878. He was survived by his wife and children; Frank Schingo and Mrs. Charles Stehfest of Beaver Dam; Mrs. Adam Baer of Milwaukee; Joseph Schingo of Park Falls, Wis. and Fred Schingo of Wisconsin Rapids. Four children preceded him in death.
