Obituary from Anchorage Daily News (AK) | 23 July 2002:

Thomas Dille, 67, died July 10, 2002, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.

His ashes will be scattered across the Fortymile country near Chicken. Arrangements were by Alaska Cremation Center. [Another source says his ashes were scattered at 40-mile Creek and O'Brien's Creek in the Tok region where he maintained a wilderness cabin.]

Mr. Dille was born March 3, 1935, in American Falls, Idaho. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged.

Mr. Dille owned and operated Tom's Automotive and Marine in Valdez, and he was continually taking classes in automotive and marine mechanics.

His family said he was a great fisherman.

His family wrote: "Terrible Tom was one of the greatest people a person could ever meet. Tom had been a small-town mechanic for many, many years. He came from a generation where hard work, reputation and determination were a way of life. He carried values with pride all the time. He was truly a man who will be missed by family, friends and the guy passing through town."

Mr. Dille is survived by his wife, Katherine Dille; daughters, Jeanne Carston, Sandy Potter, Hannah Wagenleiter and Samantha Dille; grandchildren, Michael, Tonya, Jeanne, Rachel, Teddy; great-grandchildren, Brie, Shon, Jacob, Austin, Anthony, and Jaycee.
