Richard was born August 28, 1924, in Prue, Oklahoma to Jewell Grant and Beulah Elma Burgess. He had one sister, Edith Carter, and one brother, Jack Burgess.
Richard graduated from Tolleson High School in Ariz., in 1943. After that, he was in the Navy and then joined the Air Force.
He married the love of his life, Evelyn Levern Burgess, on May 26, 1946, in Olivehurst, Calif. Together they had four children, Michael
(Mary), Steven (Mary), Gwenda (Charley) and Jeffery (Sherrie). Their grandchildren are: Charley Jr., Billy, Mike Jr., Brenna, Stephanie, John, Jared, Jesse and Everett, along with 13 great-grandchildren, and one more on the way.
After marrying Levern, and starting to work for Bechtel, they lived in several places in California including Oroville, Fresno, Northfork, Pollock Pines, and in Arizona, St. Johns, Tonopah, and finally, Bullhead City.
Wherever they lived, Richard made sure going to Church was a big part of life, and he was a pillar in the community. He was always in a hurry - honking in the car for Levern to hurry up! He was a loving husband and father, and a good provider. He was stern with the kids, but they knew he loved them, and he always took good care of his wife. As a grandfather, he kept the grandkids in line, but loved playing games with them.
Richard will be dearly missed by all, but especially by his wife of 64 years, Levern, who now feels incomplete without him. She looks forward to the time when they will be together again.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wed., Dec. 22, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Fort Mohave, 5360 S. Calle Valle Vista, Fort Mohave, Ariz.
Arrangements are under the care of Dimond and Sons Silver Bell Chapel.
