"MRS. DAVENPORT PASSES AWAY
Mrs. Sarah Jane Davenport, a well known resident of Pleasant Valley for many years, died at Vallejo about midnight last Thursday. Born in Illinois nearly 71 years ago, as Sarah J. Calar, she came to El Dorado in this county with her parent when she was nine years old. In 1861 she was married to E. V. Davenport, and shortly afterward they moved to Pleasant Valley, where the husband was long engaged in the lumber business. Mr. Davenport died in 1904, but the widow continued to live at the old home until the children had grown to manhood and womanhood.
The funeral will be held at Pleasant Valley at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. P. E. Petersen officiating. Surviving her are three daughters, Mrs. J. H. Sweeney of Vallejo, Mrs. Anna D. Fitzgerald of Goodspings, Nevada, and Mrs. J. W. Palmer of Sisson, Cal; and three sons: W. S. Davenport of Fallon, Nevada, Geo. S, and James J. Davenport of Camino."

In 1852 Sarah's family traveled across the plains by ox-train from Illinois to California. The family settled in El Dorado County. In 1862 she married Ezekial Vincent Davenport in Diamond Springs, El Dorado County, California. Their thirteen children are listed on Ezekial's memorial.

Her parents:
Jacob Calar (1815-1899)
Sarah Denny
